Finally we did it !

The program of our Clipper's day, held in Malpensa airport, was great:

  • Visit to ALITALIA B.767-300
  • Bus tour of perimetral road with photo stops on ramp
  • Visit of the new Control Tower

On Sunday 14th November 1999, 70 "Clipperer's" had the graet opportunity to be guest of SEA at Malpena airport. Unfortunately the weather was bad: cloudy and low twmperature !

After meeting on arrivals hall of Terminal 1, passed the sucurity check, all the partecipants was "boarded" via gate A19 on the bus nr. 42 (100 pax capacity) at the right scheduled time: 10.00 AM. Our "flight" landed after few minutes near the ALITALIA B.767-300 I-DEIL "Arturo Ferrarin". Thanks to our friend Roberto Scaburri - Alitalia Technical responsible - we had all the plane for us !
In groups of 14 person per time, we had the opportunity to board, to visit the flightdeck mainly but also all the airplane.

At 11.50 we boarded again on "our" bus nr. 42 to start the long range sector of our flight: the tour on the perimetral road with several photo stops. The first was jus under the new Control Tower, then holding point of runway 35L to see the plane taxing for take off. 15 minutes and then go to the next observation point, on the grass east of 35R near the touch down point to see landings.

Last stop on the ramp of Terminal 2 with the opportunity of a close encounter of AIR EUROPE B.777 ready to taxi for take off on 35L.

At 13.15 was time for "inflight services": trough custom gate we leaved the ramp and reached the Employees' restaurant where the society "Pedus Ristorazione" prepared for us a delicious lunch, served on a sector of the restaurant fully dedicated to us.

Not "so common": the view from the top of the Control Tower, looking to the Terminal 1 with the "Schengen" satellite in first place

After the coffee, it was time for the last sector of our "flight": the visit of the new Control Tower. With is 75 meters is the highets in Europe, just over the ENAV offices.

Clipper is the first association to visit the new structure, the first "official visit" after the innauguration just two weeks before when Clipper was rappresented by the President and the Secretary.

Before to visit the Control room, we was welcomed on the Conference Room by Dott. Enzo Scozzari and Mr. Nicola Del Vecchio who introduce us the the Contyrol Tower with a briefing on the project, technical characteristics and operations. Both the ENAV's managers was available to answer to the many questions that we had for them.

It is late afternoon when, by groups of 14 persons per time, we climbed on the top of the Tower and visited the Control room: fantastic ! No other words can describe the sensation of everyone of us looking to the console of the operators, listening to the radio conversations and watching planes outside the windows from this privileged poin of view.

Special thanks to:

S.E.A. (Direzione Comunicazione e Immagine, Ufficio Sicurezza e Vigilanza), Polizia di Forntiera Aerea, Guardia di Finanza, Dogana, Arma dei Carabinieri, Pedus Ristorazione.
